Plicatula variata was named by Gabb (1864).

Synonyms

Plicatula onoensis was named by Anderson (1938). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS Loc. 113, Mitchell Creek, which is in a Hauterivian marine siliciclastic in the Budden Canyon Formation of California.

It was synonymized subjectively with Plicatula variata by Squires and Saul (1997).
