Almasaurus was named by Dutuit (1972). It is not extant.
It was assigned to Almasauroidea by Warren and Black (1985); to Metoposauroidea by Yates and Warren (2000); and to Almasauridae by Carroll (1988), Schoch and Milner (2000).
