Taxonomy

Almasauridae was named by Dutuit (1972). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Almasauroidea by Carroll (1988); and to Trematosauroidea by Schoch and Milner (2000).

Almasaurus, Latiscopus, Latiscopus disjunctus

Synonyms

Latiscopus disjunctus was named by Wilson (1948). Its type specimen is UT-BEG 31025-182, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Otis Chalk Quarry 1, SMU Loc. 122, TMM 31025, which is in a Carnian/Norian crevasse splay mudstone/mudstone in the Colorado City Formation of Texas.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Schoch and Milner (2000).
Latiscopus was named by Wilson (1948). It was considered monophyletic by Wilson (1948).

It was assigned to Latiscopidae by Wilson (1948), Murry (1986); and to Trematosauridae by Warren and Black (1985), Carroll (1988).
