Taxonomy
Tertrema was named by Wiman (1914). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Tertreminae.

It was assigned to Trematosauridae by Watson (1919), Warren and Black (1985), Carroll (1988); and to Tertreminae by Schoch and Milner (2000).
