Lyrocephaliscus was named by Kuhn (1961). It is not extant. Its type is Lyrocephalus euri. It is the type genus of Lyrocephaliscidae.
It was assigned to Trematosauridae by Warren and Black (1985), Carroll (1988); and to Lyrocephaliscidae by Schoch and Milner (2000), Schoch (2013).
