Taxonomy
Phoberodon was named by Cabrera (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Phoberodon arctirostris. It was considered monophyletic by Muizon (1987).
It was assigned to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); to Squalodontidae by Cabrera (1926), Kellogg (1928), Simpson (1945), Siryk and Dubrovo (1970), Muizon (1987), Carroll (1988), Muizon (1990), Muizon (1994), Cozzuol (1996), McKenna and Bell (1997), Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Tanaka and Fordyce (2014), Marx et al. (2016); and to Odontoceti by Viglino et al. (2019).
