It was replaced with Aulocetus by Van Beneden (1875), True (1912).

Aulocetus was named by Van Beneden (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi]. Its type is Titanocetus sammarinensis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Cetotherium by Zittel (1925); it was synonymized objectively with Cetotheriopsis by Kellogg (1931), McKenna and Bell (1997), Bisconti (2006).

It was assigned to Balaenopterinae by Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904); to Mysticeti by True (1912); to Balaenopteridae by Flores (1895), Abel (1919); to Balaenidae by Palmer (1904), Pilleri (1987); to Cetacea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tranatocetidae by Berta (2017).
Stenodon was named by Van Beneden (1865).

It was synonymized subjectively with Orycterocetus by Cope (1890); it was synonymized subjectively with Physeter by Trouessart (1898); it was replaced with Cetotheriopsis by Kellogg (1931), McKenna and Bell (1997).

It was assigned to Zeuglodontidae by Van Beneden (1865); to Cynorcidae by Gill (1871), Gill (1872); and to Balaenidae by Palmer (1904).
