Goronyosaurus was named by Azzaroli et al. (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Mosasauridae by Azzaroli et al. (1972), Lingham-Soliar (1991); to Squamata by Sepkoski (2002); to Plioplatecarpinae by Driscoll et al. (2019); and to Selmasaurini by Longrich et al. (2024).
