Lepophidium aequalis was named by Stinton and Nolf (1970). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Balegem, which is in a Lutetian coastal sandstone in Belgium.
It was recombined as Aequalobythites aequalis by Schwarzhans (2007).
