Stichocentrus was named by Patterson (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno Sepkoski's reference number: 915]. It is not extant. Its type is Stichocentrus liratus.
It was assigned to Caproberyginae by Patterson (1967); to Holocentroidei by Patterson (1993); and to Beryciformes by Sepkoski (2002).
