Erymnochelys eremberti was named by Broin (1977). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Saint-Germain-en-Laye, which is in a Lutetian terrestrial horizon in France.
It was recombined as Eocenochelus eremberti by Pérez-García et al. (2017), Georgalis et al. (2020).
