Taxonomy
Abyssothyris briggsi was named by Cooper (1978). Its type specimen is USNM 550840b, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is FB3, Naingatungatu, Viti Levu, which is in a Zanclean marine siliciclastic in the Suva Marl Formation of Fiji.
