Huso was named by Brandt and Ratzeburg (1833) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio-l R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Husinae.

It was assigned to Husinae by Grande and Bemis (1996); to Acipenseriformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Acipenserinae by Grande and Hilton (2006).
