Taxonomy
Mithridatocetus eichwaldi was named by Goldin and Startsev (2017). Its type specimen is CMT 12559/1, a partial skull (incomplete cranium with periotic bones and tympanic bullae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kamysh-Burun district mine, quarry E, which is in a Tortonian coastal horizon in the Blinovo Formation of Ukraine. It is the type species of Mithridatocetus.
