Eoetmopterus was named by Muller and Schollmann (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Squalidae by Siverson (1993), Underwood and Mitchell (1999); to Squaliformes by Sepkoski (2002); and to Etmopteridae by Cappetta et al. (2019), Feichtinger et al. (2022).
