Taxonomy
Atasorex edax was named by Lopatin (2004). Its type specimen is PIN, no. 4516/190, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Altynshokysu (bone bed IV), which is in an Oligocene terrestrial claystone in the Aral Formation of Kazakhstan. It is the type species of Atasorex.
