Diagnosis
Reference | Diagnosis | |
---|---|---|
P. R. Bell and P. J. Currie 2016 | Boreonykus is diagnosed by a single autapomorphy: supratemporal ridge on frontals forming an acute angle (55°) anteriorly. It can be further differentiated from all other dromaeosaurids by the following unique combination of characters: frontal elongate and slender; low supratemporal ridge forming an arc that is concave relative to interfrontal suture in dorsal view; and area immediately posterior to supratemporal ridge smooth and posteroventrally sloping. Boreonykus is differentiated from the penecontemporaneous Saurornitholestes in having a more robust frontal, a supratemporal ridge that is not sinuous, and lacks a distinct pit on its posterolateral surface. It is further distinguished from Dromaeosaurus in having slender and elongate frontals that are dorsally flat and are not widely separated anteromedially by the overlapping nasals. Furthermore, the dorsolateral contact for the lacrimal is not slot-like but has an elongate sutural surface. |
