Taxonomy
Gouldiidae was named by Stewart (1930). It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Veneridae by Bieler and Mikkelsen (2006); it was reranked as the tribe Gouldiini by Carter et al. (2011); it was reranked as the subfamily Gouldiinae by Bouchet et al. (2010), Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
It was assigned to Meretricinae by Carter et al. (2011); and to Veneridae by Bouchet et al. (2010), Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
