Taxonomy
Transpithecus obtentus was named by Ameghino (1901). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barranca south of Lago Colhue-Huapi, Gran Barranca, which is in a Bartonian terrestrial claystone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina. It is the type species of Transpithecus.

Synonyms
  • Acoelodus connectus was named by Ameghino (1901). Its type specimen is MACN-A 10747a, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Río Chico Oeste, which is in a Lutetian/Bartonian terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Paginula parca by Simpson (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Transpithecus obtentus by Vera (2013).
  • Patriarchippus annectens was named by Ameghino (1904). Its type specimen is MACN 10691, a maxilla (part of left maxilla with M1-2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Casamayoran of Patagonia, which is in a Casamayoran terrestrial horizon in Argentina.

    It was synonymized subjectively with Antepithecus brachystephanus by Simpson (1967); it was synonymized subjectively with Transpithecus obtentus by Vera (2012).
