Taxonomy
Monotis alaskana was named by Smith (1927). Its type specimen is USNM 74193, a valve (left valve), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 9961, Mill Creek, which is in a Norian marine horizon in the McCarthy Formation of Alaska.
It was recombined as Monotis (Monotis) alaskana by Silberling et al. (1997).

N. J. Silberling et al. 1997 | Medium size M. (Monotis) up to 50 mm long. Postumbonal length up to twice anterior length and 2–3 times length of posterior ear that is truncated posteriorly at 130°+15°. Primary ribs number 30+5; secondary ribs inserted at valve height of about 10 mm, and tertiary ribs, if present, irregularly inserted at valve height of about 25 mm.
