Linnarssonia was named by Walcott (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l Cm uMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1,522,885].

It was assigned to Acrotretidae by Williams et al. (2000); to Acrotretida by Bengtson (1992), Sepkoski (2002); and to Linnarssoniinae by Landing et al. (2002).
