Murex salmo was named by Wood (1828). It is extant.

It was recombined as Pyrula salmo by Wood (1828); it was recombined as Fasciolaria salmo by Gray (1839); it was recombined as Fasciolaria (Pleuroploca) salmo by Shikama and Horikoshi (1963); it was recombined as Pleuroploca salmo by Abbott (1974); it was recombined as Granolaria salmo by Snyder et al. (2012) and Rosenberg et al. (2013).
