Isocetus depauwi

Taxonomy
Isocetus depauwii was named by Van Beneden and Gervais (1868) [MRHNB 4018 = cotype according to Abel 1938 the partial skeleton RBINS M.396-R.370 is the first figured specimen and shows sufficient diagnostic features to be used as lectotype (Bisconti et al, 2013)]. Its type specimen is MRHNB 4018, a partial skull, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Vieux-Dieu, which is in a Langhian/Serravallian open shallow subtidal sandstone in the Berchem Formation of Belgium.

It was recombined as Mesocetus depauwi by Vanden Broeck (1874); it was considered a nomen dubium by Steeman (2010); it was corrected as Isocetus depauwi by Abel (1938), Bisconti et al. (2013).
