Glossomorphites was named by Hessland (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 855]. It is the type genus of Glossomorphitinae.
It was assigned to Sigmoopsidae by Benson et al. (1961); to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Glossomorphitinae by Henningsmoen (1953), Lajblová and Kraft (2014).
