Bolbina was named by Henningsmoen (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l O Ashg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 78,855]. Its type is Bollia ornata. It is the type genus of Bolbininae.
It was assigned to Sigmoopsiinae by Henningsmoen (1953); to Piretellidae by Benson et al. (1961); and to Bolbininae by Ivanova (1979), Schallreuter and Hinz-Schallreuter (2013).
