Polymorphina was named by d'Orbigny (1826) [Sepkoski's age data: T Dani R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Polymorphininae by Cushman (1927); to Polymorphinidae by Bertels (1964) and Wienrich (1997); and to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002).
