Mourlonia coniforme was named by Jack and Etheridge (1892) [Mourlonia? coniforme Etheridge in Jack & Etheridge 1892]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Platyteichum coniforme by Dickins (1961), Waterhouse (1987), Parfrey (1988).
