Pleurotomaria planulata was named by Girty (1909). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 2931 green, Guadalupe Canyon, Guadalupe Mountains, which is in a Roadian slope limestone in the Cherry Canyon Formation of Texas.
