Taxonomy
Lophophyllidium skinneri was named by Ross and Ross (1962). Its type specimen is USNM 139743 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM705ca, Leonard Mountain, Glass Mountains, which is in a Gzhelian marine shale in the Gaptank Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Lophophyllidium (Lophophyllidium) skinneri by Fedorowski (1987).
