R. L. Nydam et al. 2010 | Borioteiioidean lizards that differ from Asian (Gilmoreteius [= Macrocephalosaurus; Langer 1998] gilmorei, G. chulsanensis, Cherminsaurus kozlowskii, Darchansaurus estesi) and other North American (Bicuspidon numerosus, B. hatzegiensis, Dicothodon moorei, D. cifelli, D. bajaensis, Polyglyphanodon sternbergi) borioteiioids in having a long, massive mandibular symphysis extending posteriorly 4–5 tooth positions that forms the superior and inferior margins of the anterior-most portion of the Meckelian groove. Further differs from the aforementioned taxa and Gilmoreteius gilmorei, G. chulsanensis, Cherminsaurus kozlowskii, Darchansaurus estesi, and Erdenetesaurus robinsonae by having teeth that tend to be massive with a mid-shaft swelling (‘barrel-shaped’), tooth crowns that tend to have mesial and distal accessory ridges often forming cusps, and teeth that are widely spread along the tooth row. Further differs from B. numerosus, B. hatzegiensis, D. moorei, D. cifellii, D. bajaensis, and Po. sternbergi in having tooth crowns that lack a transverse orientation or mediolateral expansion. Differs from Prototeius stageri in lacking an intramandibular septum below the posterior half of the dentary tooth row and in having teeth in the anterior-most portion of the dentary tooth row that are not procumbent to only very weakly procumbent. |
