Pleurotomaria binodosa was named by Münster (1841).
It was recombined as Fossariopsis binodosa by Böhm (1895) and Yu et al. (1974); it was recombined as Fossariopsis binodosus by Jelen (1989); it was recombined as Delphinulopsis binodosa by Kittl (1892), Kittl (1899), Yin and Yochelson (1983), Bandel (2007) and Dominici (2024).
