Eurhinosaurus longirostris
Taxonomy
Ichthyosaurus longirostris was named by Mantell (1851). Its type specimen is BMNH 14566 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Barrow-on-Soar (BMNH collection), which is in a Planorbis marine limestone in the United Kingdom.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ichthyosaurus latifrons by Lydekker (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Leptopterygius latifrons by Delair (1960); it was recombined as Eurhinosaurus longirostris by McGowan (1989), Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Fischer et al. (2013), Ji et al. (2016).
It was synonymized subjectively with Ichthyosaurus latifrons by Lydekker (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Leptopterygius latifrons by Delair (1960); it was recombined as Eurhinosaurus longirostris by McGowan (1989), Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Fischer et al.
