Taxonomy
Praeexogyra was named by Charles (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u K Berr-l Sepkoski's reference number: 92]. It is not extant. Its type is Ostrea (Liostrea) acuminata.

It was assigned to Gryphaeinae by Vokes (1980); to Ostreidae by Kelly (1984); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
