Avichlamys was named by Allasinaz (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Indu-u Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. It is not extant. Its type is Pecten csopakensis.
It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pectinidae by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
