Squinabolella causia was named by Carter (1993). Its type locality is 87-CNA-SKUSP-1 Kunga Island, which is in a Rhaetian basinal (siliciclastic) limestone/siltstone in the Sandilands Formation of Canada.
It was recombined as Nabolella causia by Kiessling (2005).
