Volvula oxytata was named by Bush (1885) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Western Atlantic]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Bulla (Volvula) oxytata by Toula (1908); it was recombined as Volvulella (Volvulella) oxytata by Woodring (1970).

Synonyms
  • Volvula cylindrica was named by Gabb (1873) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene-Pliocene; Caribbean.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

    It was replaced with Volvula cercadensis by Van Winkle (1921); it was replaced with Volvula oxytata by Woodring (1928); it was synonymized subjectively with Volvulella (Volvulella) oxytata by Woodring (1970).
