Gafrarium altum costaricensis was named by Olsson (1922). Its type specimen is PRI 21339, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Gafrarium (Gouldia) altum costaricensis by Palmer (1927); it was recombined as Gouldia costaricensis by Woodring (1982).
