Palaeoconcha was named by Miller (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-u S Ldov-u].

It was assigned to Praenuculidae by Cox et al. (1969), Harrison and Harrison (1975), Hayami and Kase (1977) and Vokes (1980); to Nuculoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palaeoconchidae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
