Centrastrea tokushimaensis was named by Eguchi (1951). Its type locality is Kawaguchi-mura, which is in a Tithonian/Berriasian perireef or subreef limestone in Japan.
It was recombined as Thamnasteria tokushimaensis by Kiessling (2008).
