Taxonomy
Tianyuraptor ostromi was named by Zheng et al. (2009). Its type specimen is STM1-3, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Dawangzhangzi, which is in a Barremian/Aptian lacustrine shale in the Yixian Formation of China.

Zheng et al. 2009A medium-sized dromaeosaurid that differs from other dromaeosaurids in the following derived features: length of the middle caudal vertebrae more than twice that of the dorsal vertebrae, a small and extremely slender furcula, and an elongated hindlimb about three times as long as the dorsal series.
