Lechites was named by Nowak (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-u K Ceno-l]. Its type is Baculites gaudini.

It was reranked as Baculites (Lechites) by Tokunga and Shimizu (1926).

It was assigned to Baculites by Tokunga and Shimizu (1926); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Baculitidae by Matsumoto (1959), Henderson (1990), Arkadiev et al. (2000), Szives (2007), Kennedy and Latil (2007), Kennedy et al. (2008), Kennedy et al. (2008).
