Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
R. D. Hoare 1993Large Ectogrammysia with prominent hinge plate; valve ornamented by more or less regularly developed comarginal ridges, which commonly bifurcate in early growth stages; ridges become irregular to obsolescent in maturity.

Ectogrammysia with elongate shell; beaks prosogyrate, located approximately one-fourth length from anterior margin; umbonal area flattened, no distinct sulcus; anterior and posterior margins nearly evenly convex; ventral margin gently convex, subparallel to dorsal margin; hinge plate well developed, forming a deep groove on internal molds; numerous, closely spaced, bifurcating, comarginal ridges on early growth states, becoming irregular to obsolescent in later growth; fine pustules arranged in radial rows present posteriorly; muscle scars and pallial line not impressed on internal molds.

The elongate shape, large size, and change in development of the comarginal wrinkles distinguish Ectogrammysia prolata from other species of the genus.
