Taxonomy
Hardmanoceras was named by Teichert and Glenister (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 524]. Its type is Hardmanoceras lobatum.

It was assigned to Trocholitidae by Teichert and Glenister (1952), Teichert et al. (1964), Crick (1981), Stait and Burrett (1984); and to Tarphyceratida by Sepkoski (2002).
