Amphibamidae was named by Moodie (1912) [Attributed to Cope (1875) in this paper and only later (Moodie, 1916, Carnegie Inst. Washington Publ. 238) formally proposed as a new family. Authority is often cited to be Moodie (1909 or 1910).]. It is not extant. It was considered paraphyletic by Anderson et al. (2008), monophyletic by Fröbisch and Reisz (2008), Schoch (2013), Schoch (2019).
