Venus complanatus was named by Defrance (1828) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Marcia complanatus by Morellet and Morellet (1944); it was recombined as Katelysia (Textivenus) complanatus by Le Renard and Pacaud (1995).
