Taxonomy
Paenepetenyia zhudingi was named by Storch (1995). Its type specimen is IVPP V12125, a mandible (sin with m1-m3), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Ertemte 2, which is in a Miocene lacustrine horizon in China. It is the type species of Paenepetenyia.
