Sigaretus cancellatus was named by Lamarck (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Vanikoro, Sigaretus.

It was recombined as Vanikoro cancellatus by Quoy and Gaimard (1832).
