It was synonymized subjectively with Delphinidae by Mead and Brownell (2005); it was corrected as Lissodelphininae by LeDuc et al. (1999), Fordyce and de Muizon (2001), Bianucci and Landini (2007), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008), Foekens (2008), Perrin et al. (2013), Marx et al. (2016), Vollmer et al. (2019).
