Etymology. The species name is derived from the Greek brachys meaning short and rhynchos meaning snout, beak.

Type specimen: MJSN BAN001-2.1, a skull (a relatively completed, but crushed cranium). Its type locality is Tunnel du Banne, which is in a Kimmeridgian carbonate limestone in the Reuchenette Formation of Switzerland.
