Sister taxa: Apheloneura minutissima, Apheloneura uralensis
Type specimen: MCZ 8604, a forewing. Its type locality is Elmo, MCZ 1927 collection, which is in an Artinskian pond limestone in the Wellington Formation of Kansas.

Distribution: found only at Elmo, MCZ 1927 collection
